D. Patrick Harding
Age:44
Occupation: Military
Short term fitness goal: to stop the trend of becoming fat and slow as I get older
Long term fitness goal: to become stronger, faster, more fit and to be able to score well on any future PT tests!
Previous Sports/Fitness Experience: did martial arts when I was younger. Have worked out off and on over the years. My fitness experience has come out of years in the military and law enforcement.
What initially drew you to CrossFit? My former Spec Ops military buddies were telling me about this new workout system several years ago that guys going through selection were using to get ready. We did similar stuff back in the day, ropes, ruck marches, log drills. We recalled how back then we felt unstoppable physically. I wanted that level of fitness again, but just got bored and frustrated at going to a gym and just going through the motions. I really like the intensity and mindset. CF makes me believe I may one day be able to achieve some of that former ability.
One of the things I like is the concern you guys have for our goals and questions. And also, I really value the "suffering as a group" environment and having a place where we can throw, drop, pull, push, flip, climb and lift lots of heavy things.
My biggest result at Get Built so far has been a major gain in strength and power.
What would you tell others who are considering joining Get Built? It's a blast! And it is more intense than anything in town; not like some special "class" that local gyms offer once a week. It will be unlike anything they have ever experienced and its not something everyone can do. Working out at GBCCF is a mindset. You will get stronger, faster and be more practically fit and not even know it at first.
